Local tips for Barcelona

  • Between 7:30 and 8 pm everyone heads out to dinner, and good restaurants can have a 45-minute to 1-hour queue. Book ahead, or go a little earlier or later.

  • Football fan? Swap Montjuïc Castle for the stadium tour at Spotify Camp Nou (about 1.5–2 hours, easy by metro). Camp Nou tour tickets

  • Travelling with kids? Swap the Museu Picasso or the cathedral interior for L’Aquàrium in Port Vell; far more fun for children (about 1.5 hours). Aquarium tickets

  • Most souvenir shops on the seafront are a little cheaper than those in the city centre.

  • If you live outside the EU, tax free works in almost every shop: ask for it at the till when you pay, then complete it at the airport’s tax-free desk on your way home.

  • Uber and taxis cost about the same; with the meter running, a taxi often comes out cheaper.

  • If your hotel is central, you don’t need a 1- or 2-day travel pass: buy a single-journey card from the station machines and the metro takes you almost everywhere. Keep the card; you can top it up again.

Times are for a typical weekday. Some places open later or close on Sundays and Mondays; enter your dates and the planner adjusts the route.
